Know about APEGS
Working and settling down in Canada as
an engineer requires so much from the candidate. Their capability and potential
are evaluated by an internal level highly-recognized authority like APEGS. By doing
so, the country authority makes sure that the competency-based assessment is
properly carried out. It means that the candidate is capable of contributing
positively to the economy of the country by working as an engineer.
If you are an engineer having a keen
desire to settle in Canada, then reading this whole blog can work wonders for
you. It will familiarize you with the requirements, processing time, process
and the like. Having such valuable information will enable you to hit the
bull’s eye. So, let’s move further.
What is APEGS?
APEGS stands for the Association of Professional Engineers
and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan, located in the same province (Canada), is an
authorized association for geoscientists and engineers in Saskatchewan
province. This organization is a member of Engineers Canada.
APEGS license requirements:
1. Member-in-training application and fee of $210
with tax.
2. World Education Services (WES) ICAP
course-by-course credential assessment. When having a WES ECA report, you are
required to upgrade to ICAP course-by-course. The ECA report is unacceptable.
3. Self-assessment
4. An academic assessment fee of $210 with tax.
5. Official program syllabi if necessary.
6. Identification form proof.
7. Technical engineering experience curriculum
vitae
·
Inclusion of all
engineering experience since the completion of the bachelor’s degree.
·
You need to have
sufficient proof to show that you have technical engineering work experience
doing the application of engineering theory and application of science,
including any of the following given below:
1. Examination (for instance: scope and operating
circumstances, feasibility evaluation, environmental and safety matters,
technology assessment and economic assessment.
2. Apart from that, design and synthesis (for
example functionality or production specification, component selection, incorporation
of components and subsystems into large systems, credibility and maintenance
factors, human and environmental facets and the societal effects of the product
or process and so on.
In case of doing work including the following,
you must incorporate these tasks in the job description:
1. Adhere to rules, criteria, codes and safety. It also covers local engineering
procedures and practices as applicable.
2. use knowledge of materials, or operations as
right, project and design constraints, design to perfectly fit the purpose or
service expected and address inter-disciplinary impacts,
3. examine technical risks and provide solutions
to ease the risks,
4. utilize engineering knowledge to design
solutions,
5. use solution techniques and check the results
independently,
6. show knowledge of safety risks lying in a
design and/or on-site and/or on-site and/or get safety
authorization/certificate, as you find right,
7. show the clear knowledge of systems and every
component of systems,
8. awareness of each stage of the process/project
life cycle from concept and feasibility analysis by means of implementation,
9. use quality control while designing and
constructing, which includes independent design analysis and independent
reviews of design, field reviews and checks,
10. transfer design intentions to sketches and
drawings; have a crystal-clear idea of transmittal of design information for
document designing;

title and concise description of the duties you perform for each job,
·
Don’t forget to
mail your resume to APEGS.
APEGS processing time:
The APEGS application processing time is
dependent on the candidate’s situation. International engineering graduates not
requiring detailed academic evaluation can have a shorter process time, around
2 months.
Contrary to this, the applications
requiring a detailed academic assessment usually consume around 4 months. You
should also remember that any other academic preparation needed due to the
academic assessment will increase the time period required to become eligible
for registration as a member-in-training.
APEGS confirmatory exams:
Confirmatory exams check that the
standard of the program taken by you can be compared to a CEAB officially
approved Bachelor’s degree in engineering. You have to write three exams from
the related syllabus, two from the A group (compulsory subjects) and one from
the B group (elective subjects). You have to select from the same syllabus in
which you completed your self-assessment.
APEGS application process:
Submit the application online (you
need to pay the processing fee using a credit card):
The instructions for the online
application for the applicant applying for the first time who have never
applied to APEGS in the past:
1. create an account APEGS and go through the
instruction available on the screen:
https://www.apegs.ca/Portal/Pages/sign-up-member
In case of having already applied to
APEGS, you are required to have an account, and you don’t need to use this sign-up
page. Reach APEGS Central (your
online profile) by clicking on ‘Login” that is appearing on the top right
corner of the page. if you have forgotten your erstwhile registration number or
User ID, get in touch with the APEGS office: 306-525-9547, toll-free number
1-800-500-9547, or apegs@apegs.ca.
2.
Check your
mail address for ‘APEGS sign up verification’ using APEGS apegs@apegs.ca.
The link appearing in this mail will lead you to APEGS Central homepage and
click the ‘Applications’ tab appearing on the left side of the APEGS Central
home page.
3. Choose the ‘Apply Now’ option.
Apply to WES for ICAP course-by-course
credential evaluation. The evaluation is to be sent straight to APEGS from WES.
On
our receiving and confirming that an APEGS academic evaluation is needed, you
will be given information, and an academic evaluation fee bill ($210) will be transferred
to your online profile. You should go to
the online profile for payment with a credit card before our moving ahead with
the application.
On receiving your WES assessment, you
have to complete the self-assessment. You’d better download the self-assessment
form matching best the discipline of your degree equivalent to bachelor level.
After completing the self-assessment section, mail the form back to APEGS.
Download Identification Form proof,
complete this form and dispatch the original and completed form by means of the
post to APEGS
Via email, send Official Program
Syllabi along with curriculum vitae to APEGS.
As a graduate
student of engineering in Canada, you will be required to ask the university
for the Issuance of a transcript directly to the assessing authority (APEGS). Your completed courses will be considered in
